KAMPYONGO, CHAMA ON CURFEW SPECULATION
By Wilson Mulinda:
Defence Minister Davies Chama has dismissed social media reports that the Zambia Army has declared a curfew that will restrict movement of people from 21 hours.
Mr. Chama says the rumours are being peddled by people, who are attempting to cause anarchy in the country.
Speaking when he and Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo patrolled selected parts of Lusaka, Mr. Chama said it is only President Edgar Lungu who has the powers to declare a State of Emergency or give a curfew.
He has urged Zambians to continue with their daily business as soldiers and Police officers are there to protect them.
And Mr. Chama has also warned the Community Crime Prevention Unit -CCPU- to refrain from collecting money from people in the name of patrolling communities.
He has since urged them to stay back and allow security wings to do their job professionally.
Mr. Chama said security has been heightened in communities following the increase in cases of gas attacks in various communities.
And Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo urged citizens not to kill suspects as this will rob the law enforcement agencies of the much needed evidence.
